Summer is a time for being with family, friends, and taking a vacation. And you want to avoid getting stranded on the side of the road…

So, it’s important to make sure your car is in good shape. Plus, it’s never a bad idea to keep your car in good shape before deciding to hit the market and sell your car, because if it is well-maintained the value of your car in the market is always higher.

Maintenance is important for any time of year, but it’s especially crucial in the summer when the heat can impact car performance and cause problems.

Here are some tips, tricks, and maintenance you should do to ensure a smooth summer with your car…

What You need to do this Summer

Tires:

The first thing to check is your tires. If you have older tires with a weaker sidewall, make sure they’re replaced.

In the summer months, you can still run most stock rubber, but you’ll want to keep a close eye on the sidewalls. If you need tires, make sure they’re for all-season driving, and you’re driving in conditions that won’t be affected by extreme heat or sun rays. Also, make sure you have all of your maintenance and repairs done.

All your tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles. This will reduce wear and tear on tires and save money in the long run.

Windshield Wipers:

If you have windshield wipers that need to be replaced, you’ll want to have those done ASAP.

Wipers and brakes are the top two reasons for collisions, so you don’t want anything to go wrong.

Wiper blades should be replaced yearly. A good quality set can cost as little as $15 or $20.

The Air Filter:

Clean your car’s air filter regularly. And if the filter is clogged, you’ll need to change it at least every two weeks. Dry the engine’s air filter before putting it in the air cleaner. If you don’t, the engine could actually stop running if the air filter is clogged.

Air Conditioning:

Consider using cruise control and keep the air conditioning set at a comfortable temperature if you can. If it’s too hot to be without some kind of air conditioning, you should consider buying a separate radiator fan. This is a great way to ensure the air conditioning keeps working even if your engine overheats.

Battery:

Pay close attention to the battery. You shouldn’t have any trouble starting your car in the morning, but you should keep an eye on the battery. There are two ways you can tell if your battery is working properly. One is to check the juice on the battery cables. There may be several reasons for car battery failure.

Brakes:

When the weather gets hot, your brakes will work harder and wear more quickly. Bands that help control the brakes will also wear and need to be replaced. Brake fluid needs to be topped off. The fluid acts as an anti-slip agent. Clean your rotors, too. They need to be coated with brake fluid to prevent rust.

Make sure your brakes are in good condition. You can check your brake fluid levels using a dipstick. If you see any brown or red fluid, it’s time to replace your brake fluid.

And if you don’t know how to do all this, consider taking it to a mechanic to make sure everything runs smooth and healthy.

Engine Fluids:

and make sure they are the proper mixture. You should also perform oil changes regularly to protect the engine from overheating. This is important if you plan to drive to another state or if you drive on high mountain roads.

Get a tune-up:

A tune-up is required every two years for any vehicle, but you’ll want to get yours done sooner if possible.

A simple tune-up will check your fluid levels, including the coolant, oil, transmission fluid, and tires, and more…

Everyone gets distracted and complacent from time to time. If you take some time to get your car in order and keep up with routine maintenance, it’ll make your life a lot easier, and will always do better if you ever decide to cash your car. A simple tune-up will check your fluid levels, including the coolant, oil, transmission fluid, and tires, and more…
