Huawei P Smart 2019 Review, Specs and Price

Huawei P Smart with its excellent design, screen, and plenty of storage gives great value for money. Huawei P Smart and Honor 10 Lite are identical devices with some differences when we look at their design, cameras, and box contents. The front selfie-camera of P Smart has a low resolution of 8MP. On the other hand Honor, 10 Lite packs with a front selfie-camera of 24MP.

With its low price, the device is good in terms of its big and sharp screen and dual-lenses camera on the back. With its 155.2 x 73.4 x 8 mm dimensions and 168g weight, this device can easily fit into the hands of most users. This device lacks when it comes to multitasking or gaming, but otherwise, it delivers a lot of storage, a decent camera, a better screen, and excellent design at this price.

If you want to make a sensible choice when considering buying a smartphone, If you don’t want to spend too much on a device and are looking for a mid-range phone with decent specs, the Huawei P smart 2019 is well worth considering. But you will not get very good camera results with this smartphone. It has a better facial unlock function, but the speed and style of the phone can’t quite compete with the top flagship devices. The Huawei P Smart 2019 Argos are available here.

Huawei P Smart: Design

If there is a difference between P Smart and Honor 10 Lite, this one is the design. The device is 8mm thick and weighing 162g, the back and sides of the body are made up of plastic with a high-gloss effect.

The back of the phone with gradient finish colors feels like glass. This smartphone is light in weight, fits very comfortably into the hands, and gives a smooth feeling. Well, the body is made of plastic, which means it scratches more than the glass. So, you need to protect it by covering it with a case to protect it and also keep its look amazing. Moreover, it comes up with a pre-fitted screen protector but Honor 10 Lite doesn’t have this feature. It means you only need to buy a phone case for it, the glass protector is already there.

The colors in which you can buy this mobile are Midnight Black, Turquoise Blue, and Aurora Blue. Both blue colors provide a gradient finish which gives an excellent look to the device. The dual-camera setup is on the back and there is also a fingerprint scanner in the middle of the device.

Display/Screen

Huawei P Smart comes up with a 6.21 inches wide display screen having a 1080 x 2340 resolution and a pixel density of 415 pixels per inch. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9 and also very light on bezels. According to Huawei, it is better than many other flagships because it delivers a 90% screen-to-body ratio.

When comparing with many premium phones such as iPhone XR, Huawei P Smart is on top in terms of pixel density, because XR features only 326ppi while it has 415ppi pixel density. According to the mid-range devices, the display of the phone is very bright, its angle and outdoor visions are also great. You can easily see the content on your phone’s screen in bright sunlight.

There is a small bump, known as teardrop or water-drop notch which contains the 24MP camera, Huawei called it a dewdrop. The P Smart contains a sharp and big LCD screen at its mid-range price.

Performance and Storage

You get the Huawei P Smart from the market with its Kirin 710 chipset, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. This chipset is octa-core with four 2.2GHz cores and the other four clocked at 1.7GHz.

With 3GB of RAM, you won’t expect that it gives a fast performance what you expect from top flagships. It works very fine with basic apps or basic 2D/3D games without any lag. But when you try to run intensive apps or games, it will take time to load and also become choppy or laggy. It’s a normal thing with these mid-range cheap mobiles. You have to compromise with some limited things.

On the other hand, 64GB of storage and microSD card support of up to 512GB is excellent and there is no second thought in this department. It’s too much within this price tag. You can save your favorite apps, games, and important data on your smartphone. If you’re running out of mobile’s own storage, there is also microSD support to save more data.

But it is not able to run most in-demanding apps, especially games like PUBG, Call of Duty, etc. in a smooth way and starts lagging. But it’s GPU Turbo Mode helps you a little bit by increasing the phone’s performance.

Huawei P Smart Review: Camera

You get a dual-camera arrangement on the back similar to the Honor Lite 10. One main camera is 13MP and the second one is a 2MP depth sensor. The second camera is very helpful in making the striking bokeh effect.

The ability of Huawei P Smart to increase the image exposure is also good enough. In good light, it has enough power to brighten up the images and lift the photo’s mood very nicely. We can say that P Smart has the shooting mode for any photographer.

The camera contains AI technology, it has the ability to identify 22 categories and 500 different scenarios. By doing this, it automatically adjusts the real-time camera settings. You only need to point and shoot the photos, the rest of the hard job is done by the phone. If you are shooting in AI mode, it detects the scenes and adjusts the filters according to this. But sometimes, it totally blows away by giving high contrast, exaggerated saturation, and vibrancy.

The front camera gives you fewer pixels than Honor Lite 10 but is perfect in this range. The bokeh mode automatically blurs the background of the shot taken, it also features a studio lighting effect.

Battery Life

The Huawei P Smart is packed with a 3,400mAh battery. With normal daily activities, it easily lasts for a whole day with 10-20% remaining. But If you are playing full HD videos in full brightness, the battery is drained by 19% which is not a very good result but respectable from this mid-ranger.

The device provides you a lot of options and control in the settings on battery usage, power savings, and ultra power savings modes. It also allows you to control which apps run automatically. All these options allow the battery of your smartphone to survive a bit more than normal.

There is no wireless charging as you can’t expect in this phone and charging takes more than an hour and a half to go from 0-100%.

Verdict

Huawei P Smart 2019 is an amazing budget device under £200 with a lot of similarities with Honor Lite 10. Both these devices are the same with differences in their cameras and design but other features and user experience are the same.

But it’s not as perfect as we may expect. With Kirin 710 chipset, it lacks in running multiple tasks and intensive games. There also no water-proof system, wireless or fast charging, and even not a USB-C port.

What things to like about this device is its camera, big amount of storage, long battery life, and screen as well as its good looking design.
